A request

First of all, I want to welcome Landy. I also want to thank Dave for putting a link to our site because it has helped us get an actual following, very cool. Now down to business.

I just finished my first 2k row and it was horrible. I do not think I know how to breathe properly while doing this exercise. This might sound stupid but I have had this problem before. When I started running about a year and a half ago. I had to work on the breathing correctly. I seem to get really worried about it and then it all goes to S#!t. Which reminds me... Mandy, less then 2 years ago I could not run a mile. I will say that again. I could literally not run a mile. In January, I ran 26.2 of them. Do not get discouraged. If I can do it, I know you can. I know this because you are a bad ass. I used this book to help me:

Now, back to me. I am getting very easily distracted in this post. By the way the tacos from Chipotle were really good and in the "zone". That time I did it for effect. So, my rowing was very bad. The 2k took me 9:47. Feel free to laugh and point. I know it was bad. If someone, anyone would show me how to be a better rower and actually take in oxygen while doing it, I would greatly appreciate it.

  1. Bea - you gotta quit digging on yourself. Whatever you did the row in, you did it, finished and didn't quit. That in itself is a fabulous accomplishment. I think in crossfit, we hold ourselves to higher than normal standards. Which is good, but it can also be very bad. Instead of thinking how bad you did (which you didn't, I remind you that times were all over the place on the board - yours was not "last"), think about how far you have come and how much better you are going to get in a day, week, month, year (yikes). Its hard to do, but listen to your own advice (like the advice you are giving to Mandy)! Its good advice!

The breathing - I'm not sure but I bet this is mostly mental. I am no expert, but I got some breathing down pretty good (thanks to Pilates). I'd be happy to show what works for me. Don't get me wrong - rowing still sucks and my time can still get better. I imagined myself in the water - no joke - I really did. Wait - don't laugh at me.

Keep being a bad ass Bea - I need to keep looking up to you.

P.S. I just noticed that love to talk parenthetically.

  2. I wasn't really being that hard on myself. I knew ahead of time that this was not going to be an enjoyable WOD. I looked back through my notebook and had written "this was horrible" next to a similar WOD. My sence of humor is self deprecating. I promise I am not crying on the inside. I do need help with my rowing though.
