Things that have snuck in

So I think I am accidentally eating things that are not Paleo: salt, balsalmic vinegar. Plus I chowed on a Lara bar that I realized afterwards was peanut butter = peanut. Oops.

I've really got to branch out on the flavorings. I don't use dressing on salads anymore - in fact, I haven't done so in a very long time. I just use balsalmic vinegar or nothing if there is fruit and cheese in my salad. I'm not sure I can take in my normal big ass salad without balsalmic vinegar. Suggestions for a similar salad "dressing"? I really enjoy my big ass salads, so it would be a shame not to keep in in the rotation.

  1. I don't use any dressing either. If you eat dairy, I think the cheese acts like a dressing, but if you're not eating dairy I use lemon juice and pepper. You could also use other seasonings, like Italian seasoning. Oh, I just remembered a great salad dressing that's totally paleo...olive oil and blood orange. Squeeze a blood orange into a bowl and mix with olive oil. I also like to put chunks of the blood orange on the salad for additional flavor.

  3. cool - I tried grapes and olive oil today. Good call on the fruit - I eliminated the tomatoes and added fruit. I saw the blood oranges at WF tonight and forgot to get one! Frack!

  4. Melinda - you could try playing around with different oils (e.g., nut oils, infused olive oils) if that's paleo friendly. Also, Trader Joe's had bags of blood oranges when I was there last weekend.
